August 1 marks the start of National Immunization Awareness Month.

Immunizations continue to be a hot topic – but it is evident to those of us at Adoption STAR that the benefits greatly outweigh the risks.

Adoption STAR has a Medical Care and Immunization Policy that requires all children in the home and the child being adopted receive recommended immunizations. Adoption STAR requires proof of immunization prior to recommending the adoptive family for adoption finalization. Additionally, a photocopy of a medical insurance card listing the adoptee’s name is required.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention provides extensive information on their website regarding immunizations and ways we can become more educated on them.

In honor of National Immunization Awareness Month, please challenge yourself to learn more about childhood immunizations and help educate others by “spreading the word” about information linked within this article.
