This free event will take place at the Evergreen Commons, 262 Georgia Street in Buffalo.

“Our Families Fun Day is an opportunity for LGBTQ and allied families to come together for an interactive activity and to network with one another,” says Matthew Crehan Higgins, Senior Director of the Pride Center of Western New York.

“The children of LGBTQ parents benefit dramatically when they are able to meet and befriend children whose family make-up is similar to their own,” says Michael Hill, Associate Director at Adoption STAR. “We are proud to partner with the Pride Center on this activity, as well as other activities for Western New York-based LGBTQ families.”

The Wondermakers will present a 45-minute program based on folk tales from Kenya, Puerto Rico, and Denmark. The show stars local actors Gail Golden, Alisse Sikes, and Christopher Standart. There are several roles for audience volunteers throughout the show and many photo opportunities for parents. The program is a fun introduction to the live theater experience with laughs, mime, and colorful costume pieces.

“The focus of the folk tales is on celebrating heroes and inspiring children to become heroes by helping friends, family, and community,” said Golden, founder of The Wondermakers. “You don’t have to have super powers to be a hero; you can use your own special powers to make a difference at home, at school, and in the neighborhood!”

Light refreshments will be offered following the performance.
