Becoming active with your community and agency is a great way to build great parenting advocacy skills, get to know the Adoption S.T.A.R. agency (including building lasting friendships with other families who have adopted!) and reap plenty of personal rewards.
We have a committee for everyone! Here are four committees that
you may be interested in learning more about!
African American Task Force
The goal of the task force is to educate the community of the need to find families for African American and to work toward recruiting families of all races interested in adopting African American infants.
Community Outreach Committee
The goal of this committee is to increase the community's awareness of Adoption S.T.A.R. Individuals on the committee help pave the way for in-services to be held in places such as hospitals, clinics, schools, places of worship, etc.
Shining Star Fundraising Committee
Each year the agency holds an annual Shining Star benefit to bring much needed attention to the fact that there are children with special needs who need adoptive families as well as the need to raise funds to help children with disabilities find forever families. This committee is a wonderful group who welcomes new members interested in working on this worthwhile event.
Social Action Committee
The goal of this committee is to focus on serving other charities or projects that need assistance and to build relationships with other charitable organizations within our community through volunteer projects. Over the years, Adoption S.T.A.R. has held a crayon drive for a public school whose students’ families struggle to afford school supplies. We have sent packages to soldiers deployed overseas. We have volunteered to paint group homes and organized a blood drive. As a non-profit, Adoption S.T.A.R. is dedicated to assisting other non-profits. In addition through the international adoption program, Adoption S.T.A.R. is involved in many humanitarian aide projects.
In addition to the committees listed above, Adoption STAR has an Educators’ Committee, Community Professional’s Committee, and a Summer Picnic Committee. For more information, do not hesitate to contact the agency.
If you have not already signed up for a committee and you would like more information on these special programs, available to you free of charge, please e-mail us at info@adoptionstar.com with your interest.
In addition to the committees listed above, Adoption S.T.A.R. sponsors several support and social groups that you may enjoy getting involved with!
