Finally, after nearly a year of officially waiting, we got THE phone call. Adoption STAR called with a profile opportunity! We got very excited, as we always did when we were profiled, but something felt different.. If truly felt right from the very beginning. Within a couple of hours, I got a call back. Sue asked if I was driving, I said no, then she asked if I was sitting. In my head I kept thinking OH MY GOSH this is THE call. I can’t believe she’s going to say what I think she’s going to say. Then she said it… the birth mom had chosen us to parent her child! I was totally ecstatic, yet at the same time, I had this feeling that this is what was supposed to happen.
A week later we were able to meet “our” birth mom and her mom for the first time. That meeting simply confirmed that we were in a perfect situation for us. We planned to meet again in 2 weeks for dinner and the following week we were at an ultrasound seeing our SON for the very first time. It was so surreal. We still had a long road – over 4 months after that ultrasound. It turned out to be a great opportunity to get to know Tyler’s birth mom and her family. We are very grateful for that time.
We got the phone labor phone call from birth mom at about 10:30 am on February 17th. We spent the afternoon at the hospital with her and her family. Things progressed pretty quickly and Tyler was born at 7:01 pm. We are so thankful to have had the opportunity to be there for his birth! Chris was able to cut the umbilical cord and I was the first to hold him! We spent the next couple of hours with him and his birth family before they took him to get his first bath and his blood work. We returned the next day and spent the day with all of them again. On the third day we went back one last time. We stopped at STAR and signed all of our paperwork and then went straight to the hospital from there to pick up our son.
It is still surreal to think about those days, even more than a year later. Since then, our second son has joined our family. We couldn’t feel more blessed than we do today! Sometimes, when it’s really quiet around here, I still can’t believe that all of this has actually happened. We will be forever grateful to STAR for helping us bring home our boys. We are also so fortunate to have such an amazing relationship with both Tyler and Colton’s birth families. They have become an important part of our life and they have given us a family!
