March is National Social Work Month and Shaun was able to sit down and talk to STAR social worker David Rossetti, LCSW. Together they talk about what is is to be a social worker, why he chose this vocation and how social workers play a pivotal role in the adoption journey.

The discussion includes:

  • What a social worker, how does it different from other fields like psychology
  • Credentialing for social work
  • The work David does in the adoption field, especially through the A-OK program
  • Why David chose to become a social worker and some of his accomplishments in the field
  • What happens once David is assigned to be the social worker for a family pursuing adoption – including homestudy visits, narratives, post placement and more.
  • The difference between working with a social worker when adopting an infant versus adopting an older child
  • What role does the social worker take in working with adoptive families

David is a Social Worker that works with prospective adoptive families through Adoption STAR. He completes home studies and post placement visits with clients.  David holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Buffalo State College and a Master’s from SUNY Albany.  David has worked with children, adolescents and adults across the spectrum of community based, residential and inpatient.  David is also a certified foster parent and has experienced emergency placements for short term and those freed for adoption.  Additionally, David is the Chief Officer of Behavioral Health for Northern Rivers Family of Services and has a private practice in Albany New York.
