We are happy to inform you that Shannon Whalen, MSW has joined the Adoption STAR staff full time as of Monday, September 12.
Shannon will work primarily in the Adoptive Parent Department as an Adoption Social Worker and Family Advocate.
Shannon received her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Buffalo and her Bachelor’s in Social Work from Buffalo State College. She has experience in the field of foster care and adoption where she has seen first hand how adoption changes lives. Shannon also watched her brother and sister-in-law go through the adoption process and become adoptive parents, and is head over heels in love with her niece, an Adoption STAR baby! In addition to being touched by adoption, Shannon worked at St. Mary’s School for the Deaf providing school-age children with support by way of counseling, planning activities, coaching, and enhancing their communication skills. She is fluent in ASL (American Sign Language).
Additionally, Shannon has been working with Adoption STAR as a home study social worker since May of 2010 providing both pre-and-post adoption services to adoptive families and birth families. She is thrilled to join the Adoption STAR staff full time and is passionate about working in the adoption field.
