Although it is undeniable that the members of the adoption triad (birth parents, adoptive parents, and adoptees) are the individuals most directly impacted by adoption, everyone is touched by adoption in one way or another. Even if adoption isn’t a part of your direct experience or a part of your day-to-day existence, you know someone with an adoption connection – be it a neighbor, an extended family member, a friend, etc.

As a child that was placed in the foster care system and ultimately adopted by a family, Maria Hernandez has lived an adoption journey that wasn’t easy. However, she has taken what she’s learned (and experienced) and channeled it into a career in the field of adoption. Her passion for adoption has also led to her pursuing an MSW degree from Rutgers University, where she’ll graduate from in May of this year.
