The holiday season and New Year is a time of reflection, and it is also a time to pay it forward.
Adoption STAR is proud of the support we have provided other non-profits and for the work we do in the community. We are also very proud to have developed scholarship opportunities.
For many years the Adoption STAR board of directors discussed creating scholarship opportunities for people interested in adoption as well as individuals personally touched by adoption.
We began with our first scholarship program over 15 years ago, the Shining Star Scholarship, which has been in existence since 2002.
In the last several years the agency has been able to waive or reduce the costs of several adoptions of babies with special needs due to the generosity of one organization, Elly’s Angels.
The Elly’s Angels Foundation provides opportunities, inspiration, and financial assistance to children of all ages. The foundation was created in honor of Ellyce Kausner, who was killed tragically on February 12, 2009 when the Continental Flight 3407 crashed into a home in Buffalo, NY.
The foundation’s mission is two-fold:
- To support the development of strong, confident young women by creating volunteer opportunities and providing strong mentorship.
- To provide funds to infants with special needs who are in need of adoption. These Angels will be placed in a home where they can achieve their highest potential, receive all of the care and love that they deserve, and be provided with unique opportunities.
Elly’s Angels continues to live up to their mission. This past month, they provided Adoption STAR with a very generous gift to assist with the placement of a very handsome little baby named Samuel. Samuel met his parents shortly after birth and despite the many challenges he may encounter, they consider him perfect.
