Adoption Themes in Advertising

Many companies are using powerful adoption-related stories as a part of their advertising campaigns.

When it comes to staying “in the know” about all things adoption-related, few are more masterful than Adoption STAR’s International Adoption Coordinator Meg Montgomery. Last week, Meg shared the following link with agency staff:

IN NEW AD, JOCKEY CELEBRATES ADOPTION BY SHOWING THERE’S MORE THAN ONE WAY TO MAKE A FAMILY

The link includes a recent piece by author Rachel Garlinghouse for Babble, as well as full video clips of recent commercials developed by Jockey and Honey Maid. The article and the accompanying clip are excellent, so please check them out if you can.

The clips really drive home several important points, including one best expressed in commentary from Garlinghouse herself:

“Commercials and films that feature adoption quite simply remind others that there are different ways to build a family, and it isn’t any less authentic. Parenthood is parenthood, siblinghood is siblinghood, and family is family. Yes, adopting can bring about unique challenges, but the love between any parent and child coming together by adoption isn’t any less because the two do not share DNA.”
