Infant Care

infantBringing home a newborn baby is an exhilarating experience, but one that can be a bit intimidating for even to the most seasoned parent. This “intimidation” can be particularly intense for first time parents, especially if they themselves have had limited to no experience with caring for a newborn.

In an effort to help our prospective adoptive parent clients feel less intimidated and better prepared, Adoption STAR offers an annual infant care class. The 2014 offering is slated for Wednesday, April 16th from 6pm to 7pm in our main office (131 John Muir Drive, Amherst, NY 14228). The class will be facilitated by a group of practicing nurses that are currently pursuing an additional nursing degree from Daemen College. Adoption STAR clients can receive 5 educational credits as a result of attending this class. Topics for discussion will include diapering, swaddling, bathing, contacting your pediatrician when your baby seems to be in need of medical care, vaccinations and more. Demonstrations, “hands on” activities/exercises, and print information to take home will also be offered as a part of this class.
