Single-parenthood has become more accepted in recent decades, and according to this article in SecondAct, single-parent adoption has also increased in popularity in recent years.
The article gave partial attribution to the rise in single-parent adoption to the growing list of single-women celebrities who have adopted; including Calista Flockhart, Sandra Bullock and Sheryl Crow. As well as Angelina Jolie, who, the article points out, adopted long before she was with Brad Pitt.
According to the article, which referenced adoption.com, “single-parent adoptions are the fastest growing trend in the field.” It also stated that single parents have shown an interest in adopting children with special needs, as “25 percent of all adoptions of special-needs children are by unmarried couples.”
With the rise in single-parent adoptions, and the limited options single parents have in international adoptions (because some countries do not allow single parents to adopt), more singles are looking to domestic adoption.
