Tonight’s webinar might help adoptive parents better support a child who has experienced trauma.
Heather T. Forbes, LCSW, is presenting a live, 75-minute webinar being given by the Beyond Consequences Institute. The webinar, entitled “Giving Your Children Their Story,” happens tonight (Wednesday, March 11, 2015) at 6pm MDT.
Heather has written extensively on children who have experienced trauma (and the issues that they may present with as a result). Tonight’s webinar will address several topics, including the fact that, “trauma is stored in fragments within the memory system. Pieces of memory here and pieces of memory there can create confusion and conflict for children who have experienced trauma. By giving them the time-line of events (even if you do not have details due to a lack of records and information available), the child can start ‘making sense’ of his/her story through the story telling. This will help your child in the process of sorting through the reality and the magical thinking to help ground your child, thus paving the way for long-term healing.”
